NEW YORK – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times" In an effort to decrease the amount wagered on its tracks through Betfair and similar betting exchanges, the New York Racing Association plans to withhold its signal from the interactive television and wagering network Attheraces starting in mid-January.

"…Betfair has been criticized for allowing bettors to set their own wagers against other gamblers through the company's Internet platform while charging a relatively inexpensive commission to handle the transaction. Critics say the firm drains money from racetracks and betting organizations that support purses from wagers.

"Magna Entertainment Corp. also dropped its signals from Attheraces in late December, and Ian Hogg, Attheraces chief operating officer, said that handle through Betfair on Santa Anita Park and Gulfstream Park has dropped dramatically…"
