(PRESS RELEASE) -- The North Carolina State Lottery Commission is releasing its sports wagering revenue report for August 2026. It compiles the revenue for the month as submitted by licensed interactive sports betting operators.Between 1-31 August, account holders in North Carolina wagered $520,469,336 on sporting events, including paid and promotional wagers. State law levies a 23 percent tax on the gross wagering revenue generated by sports betting activity. Gross wagering revenue is the total amount of sports wagers (including bonuses or promotional credits) received by an interactive sports wagering operator, less the amounts paid as winnings before any deductions for expenses, fees or taxes.
In August, the gross wagering revenue was $48,990,555. After the 23 percent tax rate is applied, the estimated tax proceeds for the month would be $11,229,280. This is the amount the N.C. Department of Revenue collects from sports wagering.
