No Hope for New Zealand Casino
NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the New Zealand Stuff: "SkyCity managing director Evan Davies would love to run a casino in Wellington and Mayor Kerry Prendergast believes one would add to the capital's attractions.
"But neither is likely to see their wish fulfilled - at least in the short-term. The 2003 Gambling Act outlaws any new casinos. Wellington is the only major city without one - with Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton and Queenstown the existing venues.
"Asked whether he would be interested in operating a Wellington casino should the law change, Mr Davies replied: 'Yes, certainly.'
"…SkyCity was central Auckland's largest ratepayer, he said, as well as its biggest employer, the largest provider of four and five-star hotel accommodation and the biggest car park operator…"
