New Zealand online lottery considered

NEW ZEALAND -- As reported by the New Zealand Stuff: "The NZ Lotteries Commission is likely to offer tickets to most of its current prize draws online, before developing new games specifically tailored for the Web.

"The commission says it has begun talking to technology suppliers about what would be involved in offering Lotto tickets online, while discussions continue with regulators who will influence whether it gets the green light.

A spokesman for Internal Affairs Minister Rick Barker says the Internal Affairs Department is preparing a briefing paper for Mr Barker. He would need to approve any changes to Lotto's game rules and will therefore have the final say on whether tickets can be sold over the Net, says NZ Lotteries spokeswoman Karen Jones.

Developing an online sales channel is part of the commission's 'long-term plan', she says..."
