New Slot Regulations Held up by Florida Legislature
FLORIDA – As reported by the Miami Herald: "The Seminoles' negotiations with the state to allow the tribe to install slot machines at its casinos are being stalled by the legislative impasse over gambling at Broward County parimutuels.
''We need to know what the competition is going to be,' said James F. Allen, chief executive of gaming operations for the tribe, at the Florida Gaming Summit held Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency in Miami.
"The Seminoles and the Miccosukees have been in talks with the state government to reach a 'compact' that would allow the tribes to install Las Vegas-style slot machines, known as 'Class III' gaming devices, at their casinos.
"The tribes say they are entitled to upgrade their current video lottery terminals, or Class II machines, because voters authorized slot machines at four Broward County parimutuels last year.
"…But Allen said it is not in the Seminoles' best interest to press hard for an immediate deal…"
