Negreanu poker book hot; racing manual super resource

5 Jun 2008

By Howard Schwartz
Daniel Negreanu's Power Hold 'Em Strategy (511 pages, paperbound, $34.95) rocketed to the head of the class among poker books (although Dan Harrington's two cash games books remain sizzling "must-have" titles as well). Meanwhile, horse players who enjoy having a true encyclopedia of thoroughbred racing will certainly love the chunky American Racing Manual (2008) (2,l00 pages, hardbound, $40).

With the World Series of Poker action heating up at the Rio in Las Vegas, Negreanu's book, written by one of the most consistent, successful and charismatic players of the generation, is selling extremely well.

The book was not written totally by Negreanu. His section begins on page 287 and is titled "Small Ball." Earlier sections were penned by Evelyn Ng ("Big Bet No Limit Hold 'Em: A Strategy for Novice Tournament Players"); Todd Brunson, son of Doyle ("Winning at High-Limit Cash Games"); Erick Lindgren ("Playing No Limit Online"); Paul Wasicka ("Short-Handed Online No Limit Hold 'em Cash Games") and David Williams ("Mixing It Up (traps, bluffing, predictable and unpredictable players, changing gears").
