MGM Resorts to launch mobile wagering application in Nevada

3 Feb 2015

LAS VEGAS -- MGM Resorts International announced plans Monday to deploy a mobile wagering system across 12 of its Nevada resorts later this year.

The technology will be provided by GTECH Holdings. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The initial use of the technology will be to provide mobile sports wagering this summer. GTECH's system will modernize the casino operator's sports book operations to include live in-play betting.

In addition to offering in-play wagering, MGM Resorts customers will be allowed to place bets on their mobile devices from anywhere in Nevada.

GTECH Senior Vice President Matteo Monteverdi said the system allows MGM Resorts "to offer more gaming without requiring more space on the gaming floor."

In addition, GTECH will provide technology that allows MGM Resorts customers to play real money gaming on their mobile devices on slots and table games from anywhere inside a company property.

MGM Resorts Senior Vice President of Business Development Thomas Mikulich said the product allows gamblers to "enjoy convenient and exciting new ways to wager seamlessly across multiple gaming channels."

Mobile sports wagering has become common in Nevada. The technology is credited with helping drive a record $227 million in gaming revenue from sport wagering in 2014, an 11.8 percent increase over 2013.

Gamblers wagered $3.9 billion on sports in Nevada during 2014, a 7.7 increase. The amount bet on sports in Nevada has increased annually in the past five years.

MGM's sports wagering and casino offerings will be combined under one application. Players will be able to link the programs to their customer loyalty accounts.
