MGM-Mandalay Merger a Non-Issue for New Jersey

NEW JERSEY – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The blockbuster deal involving Las Vegas casino heavyweights MGM Mirage and Mandalay Resort Group will not need regulatory approval in New Jersey despite MGM's half ownership of the Borgata Casino Hotel & Spa here.

"If a megamerger similar to MGM Mirage's takeover of Mandalay involved companies with multiple casinos in Atlantic City, state gaming regulators would have to consider the issue of 'undue economic concentration."'

"New Jersey has a somewhat vague anti-monopoly law that prohibits any one casino from dominating the market - or having undue economic concentration.

"…The merger must be reviewed by the Federal Trade Commission and gaming regulators in the states where MGM and Mandalay own casinos…"
