Met's Odds Improved
NEW YORK – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Sportsbook.com's early line on the 2006 World Series shook up this week due to recent trades. The biggest leap was made by the New York Mets whose World Series odds have improved from 25-1 to 10-1 with the acquisition of Carlos Delgado and Billy Wagner.
The New York Yankees are still the overwhelming favorite at 4-1, followed by the St. Louis Cardinals, 11-2. The Mets are joined at 10-1 by the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the defending World Champion Chicago White Sox.
"The Mets definitely just made some noise picking up a big time slugger and one of the top closers in the game," said Peter Childs, Odds Maker, Sportsbook.com. "Clearly the Yankees and Red Sox are not the only teams willing to throw their financial weight around."
Odds on the Mets winning the National League pennant are currently listed at 9-2 placing them behind the St. Louis Cardinals at 2-1. Rounding out the top NL contenders are the Atlanta Braves, 11-2, Houston Astros, 6-1 and Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs, both listed at 8-1.
"There's two things New Yorkers love to do - bet and watch baseball. The Mets just made things a lot more interesting in both respects," added Childs.
