Mega Millions rises to $144 million

16 Aug 2007

ACRAMENTO, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The bad news is that no one matched all six numbers from last night's $122 million MEGA Millions jackpot, the good news is that the next MEGA Millions jackpot is at $148 million.

Another piece of good news is that one lucky player did match 5 out of 5 numbers without the MEGA number winning more than $555,000. That player bought their ticket at 7-Eleven located at 1900 A Douglas Blvd. in Roseville. More than 147,000 other players won $665,760 in prizes ranging from $2 to $9,080.

Players still have a chance at tonight's $65 million SuperLOTTO Plus jackpot. A winner of the $65 million jackpot would receive annual payments beginning at $1.6 million and graduating to $3.3 million by the 26th year (before taxes) or could choose the cash option and receive a lump sum of roughly half the jackpot amount, around $35.9 million.

Players of either game may purchase tickets for the current jackpots until 7:45 p.m. on the evening of the draw; MEGA Millions on Friday and SuperLOTTO Plus on Wednesday. Tickets for all Lottery games are available at the Lottery's approximately 19,000 retail locations statewide.

For Friday's MEGA Millions draw, a winner of the $148 million jackpot would receive annual payments of $5.69 million for the next 26 years (before taxes) or could choose the cash option and receive a lump sum of roughly half the jackpot amount, around $85.2 million.

As the jackpots rise, the California Lottery would like to remind players that gambling should be fun. If you think that you or someone you care about might have a gambling problem, call the California Problem Gambling Help Line at 1-800-GAMBLER.

The California State Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed more than $19 billion to California schools out of total sales of more than $52 billion. Retailers win too, earning $3.3 billion in compensation since 1985.
