UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Friday the 13th was lucky indeed for many Mega Millions players. A total of 496,208 tickets won prizes in the Friday, October 13, 2006 Mega Millions drawing. That includes five tickets that came within a heartbeat of hitting the jackpot. Since no ticket matched all six numbers, the jackpot climbs to an estimated $55 million for the Tuesday, October 17, 2006 drawing.

The winning numbers in Friday's drawing were: 24-27-42-47-50 and the Mega Ball number was 08.

Pari-mutuel prizes means that prize amounts vary with the number of tickets sold and the number of winning tickets in each prize category.

Those five tickets that each nearly won the jackpot did so by matching the first five numbers and only missing the Mega Ball number. The tickets were purchased in California (1), Illinois (1), New York (1), and Ohio (2).

Mega Millions is played in 12 states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
