McKinney-James Joins MGM Mirage's Board

Renewable energy consultant and Las Vegas resident Rose McKinney-James, who spent almost six years on the Mandalay Resort Group board of directors, on Friday officially joined the board of MGM Mirage.

The addition of McKinney-James increases the size of the MGM Mirage board of directors to 17.

During last March's regulatory hearings into MGM Mirage's $7.9 billion buyout of Mandalay Resorts, MGM Mirage Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Terry Lanni said McKinney-James would be invited to join his company's board.

"Her presence furthers our board's efforts to elect candidates who possess broad knowledge in areas that are relevant to our company's strategic plan," Lanni said. "She also represents our company's aim to further diversify our board and our entire employee population."

McKinney-James becomes the second African-American woman and third African-American on the MGM Mirage board. McKinney-James owns Energy Works Consulting and McKinney-James & Associates, both based in Las Vegas. She is a registered lobbyist with the Nevada Legislature, representing the Clark County School District.

McKinney-James served as the first director of Nevada's Department of Business and Industry and was a member of the Nevada Public Service Commission. She is a past president and CEO of the Las Vegas-based Corporation for Solar Technology and Renewal Resources.

She was a candidate for lieutenant governor of Nevada in 1998, and became the first African-American to win a Nevada statewide primary election.
