Malta reveals new board for Lotteries and Gaming Authority
17 May 2013
The Hon. Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis has appointed the new Board for the Lotteries and Gaming Authority with effect from today.
The new Board is composed of Mr. Mario Galea as Chairman, Dr. Chris Cilia, Dr. Rachel Tua, Mr. Caesar Grech and Ms. Ruth Trapani Galea.
The new appointments see the return of Mario Galea to the Maltese gaming scene after an absence of five years. Mr. Galea was the first CEO of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, between 2004 and 2008. He is mostly remembered for the introduction of the Remote Gaming regulations that have brought disruptive concepts to the industry, establishing Malta as the world’s largest and most respected jurisdiction for online gaming.
“The new government desires to strengthen and grow the online gaming industry, both strategically and originally”, stated Dr. Zammit Lewis.
Mr. Galea has 18 years experience in gaming and today works as a consultant with his own firm in the United States. Mr. Galea said: “I am delighted to be returning to the LGA and look forward to work with the staff to keep Malta as a center of excellence for gaming policy”.
