Major bad beat jackpot hits at Wisconsin casino

25 Mar 2011

LAC DU FLAMBEAU, Wisconsin -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- A table of poker players found a pot of gold on St. Patrick’s Day at Lake of the Torches Resort Casino in Lac du Flambeau, Wis., when a progressive $47,428 Bad Beat Jackpot was divided amongst 10 players.

The jackpot amount was divided to players at the table based on the hand they were holding when the jackpot was hit. Fifty percent of the progressive went to Adam Carryl of Minocqua, Wisconsin, who had the best losing hand and thus took home $23,744 in cash. Twenty-five percent of the winning hand, approximately $11,872 went to the player with the winning hand, and the remaining 25 percent was split evenly between the remaining eight eligible players at the table. They each received $1,484 in cash!

The Bad Beat Jackpot at Lake of the Torches is a special promotion available in the casino’s Poker Room. A predetermined amount, called a “rake,” is taken from every Texas Hold ‘Em Poker game played, along with a $1,000 based provided by the casino. When a table has a minimum pot of $20 and six active players, it qualifies for the Bad Beat Jackpot. The Jackpot is awarded when a poker hand containing three aces full of two jacks or better is beaten by a better ranking hand. A player must use both hole cards to qualify for the jackpot. In this case, the winning hand was a 4 of a kind (8’s) and the losing hand was a full house, 3 Aces full of 2 Jacks.

“What an incredible bad beat!” remarked the casino’s Director of Marketing Michael J. Broderick. “And to have it hit on St. Paddy’s Day is just totally amazing. If you like poker with great bad beat pots, Lake of the Torches is the epicenter for big money in Northern Wisconsin!”
