Law Firm Chosen to Oversee NYRA
NEW YORK – As reported by the New York Times Union: "A well-respected Manhattan law firm was chosen Tuesday to oversee the New York Racing Association.
"In an order by U.S. District Judge Arthur D. Spatt, Getnick & Getnick was appointed as the independent monitor of the nonprofit racing corporation after a host of applicants were screened by the U.S. attorney's office in the Eastern District.
"The appointment is among key provisions of a deal that gives NYRA the chance to escape felony prosecution.
"The U.S. attorney secured an indictment of NYRA, two former directors of the association's parimutuel department and four tellers Dec. 11.
"…Getnick & Getnick is expected to report any problems it finds with the scandal-plagued, financially struggling racing association. The firm is supposed to help ensure NYRA is complying with all laws and acting ethically…"
