Latin Series of Poker confirms return of 2nd annual tournament with $500,000 guaranteed prize pool
22 Feb 2013
"We're excited to head back to Lima, Peru and celebrate poker in Latin America," stated Michael Harris, spokesperson for LSOP. "But given the fact that a Canadian poker player won last year's event, we know that this event is truly international and we can't wait to see players from all over the world at the tournament.
"We made a lot of changes to the tournament structure based on players' feedback from last year and we also included many side events. We believe the player experience will be much more rewarding this year," continued Harris.
The LSOP is guaranteeing a number of prize packages starting at $2,700 USD up to $3,250 USD depending on hotel selection for the LSOP. Each package includes:
• $1,500 + $150 buy-in to the main tournament, with $500,000 Guaranteed
• 6 Nights at Sol de Oro Hotel for you and one guest
• Hotel taxes
• Breakfast at the hotel for you and one guest
• WiFi internet access at the hotel
• Roundtrip airport transportation for you and one guest
• 24/7 VIP Support Line
• Gift Bag
• Welcome party access for you and one guest
The first annual Latin Series of Poker took place in June 2012 at Casino Atlantic City in Lima, Peru. Canadian poker player Michael "The Punter" Nugent took the first place prize of $157,520 USD, outlasting a field of 451 players.
The total prize pool of $678,000 in 2012 eclipsed the $500,000 that had been guaranteed. Last year 72 players qualified online for the event. This year's event is expected to attract even more players now that the Winning Poker Network has expanded to include several other popular online poker rooms. Qualifiers will be up and running soon at BetCRIS Poker, Americas Cardroom, Black Chip Poker and TruePoker.
