LONDON, England -- Ladbrokes saw profits halved in the first half of 2014, the BBC reported.

The company attributed the drop in pre-tax profit to "operational improvements", the report said.

Ladbrokes closed 46 under-performing shops and enjoyed a prosperous World Cup, the BBC report said.
