Jason Koon earns induction into the Poker Hall of Fame

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Jason Koon has officially reached one of the highest honors in poker, earning induction into the Poker Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. The West Virginia native became the only 2026 candidate to receive the required two-thirds majority of 33 votes from living inductees, securing his place among the game's all-time greats.

Koon's induction comes after a career defined by sustained success at the highest levels of competitive poker. With more than $77 million in live tournament earnings, Koon ranks third on poker's all-time money list, putting him among an elite group of players who have consistently competed — and won — in the biggest tournaments around the world.

The Poker Hall of Fame introduced a new voting format for 2026, allowing multiple nominees to earn induction by receiving votes from at least two-thirds of the Hall's living members. The change created the possibility of several inductees, but Koon was the only candidate to reach the 22-vote threshold. The eight finalists included some of the biggest names in modern poker, making Koon's first-ballot selection even more significant.

A First-Ballot Hall of Famer
Koon became eligible for the Poker Hall of Fame after turning 40, satisfying the organization's minimum age requirement for nomination. Although this was his first year on the ballot, his résumé had long made him one of the most respected players in the game.
