Intertops.com Offers Odds Groundhog Day Prediction
Eager weather enthusiasts and fans of Punxsutawney Phil, the weather predicting woodchuck, will flock to the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, in the early morning of February 2 to see if his shadow casts itself upon the ground at Gobbler's Knob. If Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, we will have to endure six more weeks of winter.
Ever since 1886 when the first burrowing barometer saw his shadow on the ground and promptly dived back into his subterranean hideaway for another six weeks, this otherwise unknown town has been known as the "Weather Capital of the World." A groundhog-shaped shadow has been cast 94 times, which is why Intertops.com is tipping the odds heavily in favor of an extended winter at 1/5 -- though judging by this year's climatic trends, Phil could be staying out with his shades on at odds of 3/1!
"We have always had fantastic action on Groundhog Day, and as it happens four days before Super Bowl XXXIX, we are expecting our customers to have a flutter on the (marmot)fur as well as the pigskin," said Intertops.com Chief Operations Officer Michael Maerz.
"At Intertops.com we are waiting to see what Punxsutawney Phil predicts for the next six weeks before we put away our winter woollies -- you can bet on that!" he added.
