Illinois business group supports bingo agreement
ILLINOIS -- As reported by the Beacon News: "Bingo! That's what members of the Shabbona Business Association are likely thinking after the DeKalb County Board recently voted overwhelmingly in support of an agreement with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation to build a 24-hour bingo facility in Shabbona.
"The National Indian Gaming Commission will likely cast the deciding vote.
"A town of roughly 900 residents, Shabbona has long had pastimes of fishing, hunting and camping -- bringing in much less money than surrounding towns. With casino proposal, business owners are excited about the possibility of increased interest in the community.
"...The SBA said that it strongly supports the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation's plans, and that the investment will result in more jobs, lower taxes for longtime residents and increased opportunities for local merchants..."
