IGT Drops Licensing Requirement

RENO, Nevada –- (PRESS RELEASE) -- IGT (NYSE: IGT) has announced that it will drop the licensing requirement for its new SuperSAS gaming machine protocol and make it available without restrictions via the Internet to anyone who wants to access it. IGT had previously announced the protocol's availability to 200 gaming manufacturers worldwide.

The announcement to eliminate the license requirement came at the recent Slot Manager Institute in Las Vegas.

"IGT is clearly following up on its commitment to the industry to provide a free and open standard for all manufacturers to utilize," said Steve Morro, President of the IGT Gaming Group. "This will certainly speed up the development timeline for Server Based Gaming. It will allow all manufacturers to participate in the development process for a single industry-wide protocol without worrying about membership fees or patent policies."

All gaming manufacturers will retain their exclusive extensions and features in the protocol if they decide not to donate it to the gaming community.

The new version of SuperSAS is the first open standard protocol for the gaming industry that incorporates both download and remote configuration capabilities. It is based on an efficient transport protocol running over a high-speed TCP/IP network.
