Harrah's to Meet Rhode Island Legislators
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – As reported by the Providence Journal: "Harrah's Entertainment CEO Gary W. Loveman and a group of casino supporters gathered yesterday in the State House rotunda to announce: 'We're here to stay.'
"'I have to believe that at some point calmer heads will prevail and people will see the benefit of this project,' Loveman said, announcing plans to meet with legislators after the election on plans for a West Warwick casino.
"…Harrah's efforts in Massachusetts would not preclude it from moving forward with plans here, but Loveman said 'it might influence how big [the Rhode Island casino] could be, or how beneficial we think it'll be, or what the tax rates will have to be.'
"Loveman also announced yesterday that his company was backing away from a slander lawsuit it had threatened against Governor Carcieri over statements the governor made at an anti-gambling convention in Warwick on Sept. 17…"
