Harrah's To Jointly Develop Hotel-Casino In Slovenia
Harrah's Entertainment announced Tuesday it will spend $700 million to jointly develop a hotel-casino in Slovenia with a Slovenian company.
The proposed project, planned for Nova Gorcia, a city on the country's border with Italy and approximately 93 miles from Venice, will include an 800- to 1,200-room hotel, a 50,000-square-foot casino, a conference center, spa, restaurants, retail and entertainment venues.
"The unique nature of the luxury casino resort experience represents a perfect fit for the fast-growing Slovenian gaming and tourism market," Harrah's Chairman Gary Loveman said.
Slovenia has a well-established gaming market and draws substantial visitation from nearby countries including Italy and Austria. There are currently 14 casinos in Slovenia, eight of which are operated by the Hit Group, which is joint venturing with Harrah's. Most of the casinos are limited-service operations.
