Harrah's, MGM Mirage eye Mulvane
"If that happens, they won't need the county commission's endorsement under the state's new gambling law.
"One of the companies, Harrah's Entertainment-Sumner Gaming and Resorts, came a step closer Monday when the Mulvane City Council approved annexing its proposed casino site at the turnpike exit.
"A group consisting of MGM Mirage-Foxwoods Development-Chisholm Creek Ventures hopes to get the city to annex its property near the exit as well.
"...The annexation by Mulvane doesn't mean the city has endorsed the Harrah's project, but it allows that process to begin. The state's gambling law requires endorsements from either the city or the county where a casino is to be located.
"Endorsements must be obtained by March 28, the due date for contracts to be signed by the Kansas Lottery and prospective Sumner County casino managers..."
