"We're not interested at all," said Jan Jones, a senior vice president at Harrah's and a former mayor of Las Vegas. "It's in conflict with an agreement with Chester."
"Harrah's had sought to build a casino on a desirable swath of land along the Delaware River on South Christopher Columbus Boulevard near Wal-Mart and Home Depot.
"Other major gambling companies are sure to court the city, experts and city officials agree, but the news means a potential loss for Philadelphia, which has sought to attract big-name gambling suitors to develop the kind of casinos that would elevate its status and generate gobs of money in tax revenue.
"…A spokesman for Mayor Street said the loss of Harrah's would have no effect on gambling in the city.
"…The Harrah's site was named last week as a prime site for a casino in a city gambling report that says it could generate an annual gross revenue of more than $330 million.
"…'We think Philadelphia is great market, but at the present time, we do not have a location,' Jones said…"
