Genting Profit Rises

MALAYSIA – As reported by the Malaysia Business Day: "Casino and hospitality group Genting Bhd recorded a net profit of RM222.95 million (US$58.67 million) for the three months ended March 31 2004, up 13.9 per cent from RM195.95 million (US$51.56 million) recorded in the corresponding period last year.

"This climb in net profit was achieved on a 14.48 per cent rise in revenue to RM1.12 billion from RM981.05 million a year ago.

"Earnings per share rose by 14 per cent to 31.65 sen in the said period from 27.77 sen previously.

"…Meanwhile, Resorts World Bhd's net profit improved by 37 per cent to RM168.05 million in the first quarter of 2004, compared with RM122.69 million in corresponding period of 2003.

"…The higher revenue was mainly attributed to the better underlying performance in the leisure and hospitality division, which welcomed a higher number of guests…"
