Genting Poised to Reap Benefits

MALAYSIA – As reported by the Malaysian Star: "The Genting group will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year on a high note as it is poised to reap the benefits of its expansion in Britain as well as the higher number of tourist arrivals anticipated at its hill resort.

"Preparations for the celebrations are understood to be already in full swing, with the details to be announced at a press conference later this month.

"…OSK Research has projected a higher growth rate of 12% in visitors to the Genting resort this year in conjunction with its anniversary celebrations, compared with 8% to 9% growth in normal years.

"…According to the report, Genting is also expanding its gaming space with the opening of Star World in the First World Plaza. The games, which are more electronic-based, are targeted at the younger crowd.

"On the Genting group's expansion into the British casino industry via its acquisition of the Maxims Club in London, its 50:50 joint venture with Stanley Leisure to develop regional casinos in that country and the increase in its stake in London Clubs International to 19.1%, OSK Research said the group would see positive contributions from these investments in three to five years…"
