Florida tracks request slot vote

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Calder Race Course, a wholly owned property of Churchill Downs Incorporated (NASDAQ: CHDN ), and Flagler Dog Track and Sports Entertainment Center, a private, family owned business, have initiated a formal request before the Governmental Operations and Environment Committee of the Miami-Dade County Commission for a referendum to be held allowing Miami-Dade voters to consider the inclusion of slot machines at the three existing pari-mutuel facilities in Miami-Dade County. The request, in its current form, seeks Commission approval for a referendum to be placed on the ballot coinciding with Florida's presidential primary on Jan. 29, 2008. The Commission is scheduled to vote on the request Tuesday, June 12.

In March 2005, voters in Broward County approved slot machine gaming at existing pari-mutuel facilities in that county, following a statewide referendum in November 2004 that authorized Broward County and Miami-Dade County to hold local elections on the issue.

Calder Race Course, located on South Florida's Miami-Dade / Broward county line, offers Thoroughbred horse racing and wholecard simulcasting during two consecutive meets. The track is home of the Summit of Speed, Juvenile Showcase, Festival of the Sun, Florida Million and Grand Slam series of events.
