Finger gets WSOP bracelet for wrist

15 Jun 2013

Martin Finger, a 22-year-old poker pro from Vienna, Austria, won the $3,000 buy-in Six-Handed No-Limit bracelet at the World Series of Poker on Friday morning, beating a field of 807 players to collect $506,764 for first place.

"It was like a dream for me," said Finger. "It was a long way to get from there to here and first place. It's feels good."

Finger previously won the European Poker Tour title at Prague, in 2011.

Among those Finger beat was a tough but long-suffering Las Vegas poker pro who has been close to victory before. Matt Stout, making his 27th WSOP cash put up a strong fight and was within a card of victory a few times. However Finger managed to survive and came back to win, earning his victory on the final hand holding pocket queens. Stout's consolation prize amounted to $313,370.

Matt Berkey was third for $199,733, David Pham finished fourth for $131,679, while Nikolai Sears (fifth) and Andrew Dean (sixth) also made the final table.

The top 90 players finished in the money. Notable players who cashed but did not make the final table included Nick Schulman (eighth), Erik Seidel (ninth), Dan Kelly (10th), Yevgeniy Timoshenko (19th), Jonathan Little (23rd), Hasan Habib (28th), Andrew Licthenberger (39th), Victor Ramdin (43rd), Jonathan Aguiar (47th), Antonio Esfandiari (51st), Layne Flack (57th), Scott Seiver (60th), Allen Cunningham (62nd), Eric Froehlich (69th), Amanda Musumeci (77th) and Faraz Jaka (85th).

Seidel's cash was his 76th career in-the-money finish at the WSOP, which currently ranks third on the all-time list (behind Phil Hellmuth and Men “the Master” Nguyen).
