Daniel Negreanu wins Main Event at World Series of Poker Asia Pacific, adds $1 million to career earnings

15 Apr 2013

TORONTO -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Canadian poker legend Daniel Negreanu has added $1,038,825 to his career winnings after finishing first in the Main Event at the World Series of Poker Asia Pacific. By winning the tournament, which took place at the Crown Melbourne Casino in Melbourne, Australia, Negreanu increased his all-time career tournament winnings, which now total more than $17 million, and picked up his fifth WSOP bracelet.

Daniel Negreanu is one of the world's most recognizable professional poker players. He won his first WSOP bracelet in 1998 at the age of 23; at the time, he was the youngest player to ever do so. His earlier WSOP titles have come in side-events; this is the first WSOP Main Event that Negreanu has won.

"I can't put into words how happy and relieved I am to win my fifth bracelet. It's been a long time coming. I have been working hard and it feels great to see it pay off like this," said Negreanu.

Negreanu has had a busy spring, playing poker tournaments in Europe and Australia and online. This win comes at a time when Negreanu gears up for the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monaco, the largest poker tournament in Europe, and the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Only one Canadian has ever won the Main Event at the WSOP in Las Vegas - Negreanu's fellow Team PokerStars Pro, Jonathan Duhamel from Boucherville, Quebec.
