43-year-old Glen and his wife both suffer from disabilities, although Julie is able to get around more, meaning she runs shopping errands and takes the children to school. Glen, who has been housebound for the last four years due to spinal problems, is hoping the money will pay for the special mobility equipment he needs to make life easier for his wife.

Glen, who believes his wife "deserves a gold medal" for all she has been through, said: "That day couldn't have got weirder if it tried. My wife went to the hospital that day with some sort of growth on her throat. She was told she could have Cancer - talk about extremes.

"I'm so glad because my wife has to do all the running around, the cleaning, the housework because I just can't do it. She's more mobile than me and has been looking after me and doing everything.

"So perhaps I'll buy something so I can help out a bit more. It's more money than I thought I would ever, ever see."
