Circa Survivor loses 32% of field in Week 1

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Circa Survivor, the professional football contest from Las Vegas-based Circa Sports, reached 25,017 entries this season as the contest yet-again grew by leaps and bounds. However, by the end of the day Sunday, over 8,000 of those entries would be eliminated, with most of them losing on one game as LAC lost to Arizona.

LAC came into the week tied as the biggest favorite of the week, as they were favored by 8.5 over Arizona. Entrants responded to this accordingly, and they were the second-most picked team. 7,585 entries, representing 30.3 percent of the field, took Los Angeles. Arizona was considered to be one of the worst teams in the league. Despite this, they scored the first touchdown of the game, took a lead in the second quarter, and then never looked back. Arizona won 26-14 in the biggest upset of the week and knocked those entries out.

In total in week 1, 8,032 entries were eliminated. 213 were knocked out by Tennessee’s loss to New York. Dallas also had 81 entries on their loss on Sunday night. Despite other scares, including Detroit having to go to overtime to beat New Orleans, no other team with more than 50 entries on them lost in week 1. In total, 32.2 percent of the field was knocked out. While 30 people are still on the Monday night game, on either Kansas City or Denver, there are 16,985 still remaining for the ultimate prize pool of $25,017,000.

In addition to the 7,585 entries in Circa Survivor, 28 of the 77 entries in Circa Grandissimo were also on LAC, representing 36.4 percent of the field. Those were the only Grandissimo entries eliminated, so there are 49 left for the $7.7 million prize pool. As Circa Sports vice president Mike Palm pointed out on VSiN, the eliminations in Circa Survivor and Circa Grandissimo on LAC represented $10.3 million in entries, which is the most ever lost on a single team in a single week.
