Churchill, Jockeys' Guild settle dispute

KENTUCKY – (PRESS RELEASE) -- The two-year-old legal dispute between Churchill Downs Inc. and the Jockeys' Guild Inc. has been ended.

The Lexington-based Jockeys' Guild, which organized boycotts of races at Churchill Downs' tracks in Louisville and Indianapolis, has agreed not to disrupt races at the tracks. And Churchill Downs will resume contributing fees to the Jockeys' Guild to support the organization's operations, according to a news release.

"Churchill Downs (NASDAQ: CHDN) had discontinued its 'per starter' and 'per race day' payments in March 2005 after filing suit against the Jockeys' Guild, which represents more than 1,700 riders.

"The lawsuit was related to incidents at Churchill's racetracks in Louisville and Indiana during which jockeys refused to ride in races in early 2005. Churchill officials claimed in the lawsuit that the walkouts were directed by the Jockeys' Guild and violated federal antitrust laws…"
