Churchill Downs Nominates New Director
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – (Press Release) -- Churchill Downs Incorporated's (Nasdaq: CHDN) board of directors has nominated Susan E. Packard to the position of director. If approved by a vote of the Company's shareholders this spring, Packard will fill the position vacated in June 2003 by Brad M. Kelley.
Packard serves as president of affiliate sales and international development for Scripps Networks, a division of E.W. Scripps, one of the country's premier media companies with interests in newspaper publishing, broadcast television, national television networks, interactive media and television retailing. In her current role, Packard oversees all distribution of Scripps-owned cable networks to cable operators, satellite distributors and television stations. Packard also manages a team that sells Scripps-owned cable content internationally and works to create global brands by developing strategic alliances with domestic and international partners. Additionally, Packard is an officer of Scripps Networks Inc., which includes some of the nation's most popular lifestyle cable networks: Home & Garden Television (HGTV), Food Network, DIY-Do It Yourself Network (DIY), Fine Living, and Shop At Home Network.

In addition to her many professional accomplishments, Packard has contributed her time, energy and experience to the start-up of many cable industry organizations. She has served on the National CTAM marketing board, and the board of Cable Positive, and in the advisory capacity to the National Cable Television Association. Packard currently serves on the Scripps Howard Foundation board, the board of the Women in Cable and Telecommunications Foundation, and recently was elected to the National Cable Television Center and Museum's board. She also is involved in numerous community organizations, currently serving on the executive committee of the YMCA-Knoxville and on the board of the Columbus Home in Knoxville.
Packard's election to the board of directors is subject to a vote of CDI shareholders, which is scheduled to be held at the Company's annual shareholders' meeting on June 17, 2004, in Louisville, Ky.
