Churchill Downs Considers Moving Headquarters
KENTUCKY- As reported by the Louisville Courier-Journal: "Frustrated by failed efforts to legalize casino gambling, Churchill Downs Inc. CEO Tom Meeker said the company might eventually move its corporate headquarters from Louisville.
"Meeker, who will retire by next March, made the comment Monday in a wide-ranging interview discussing his two decades overseeing the Louisville horse-racing company. He said the failure to obtain casinos for the track is one of his biggest regrets during his tenure.
"…The prospect of Churchill's leaving Louisville has come up before. In 2002, Meeker denied a Chicago Sun-Times report that quoted unidentified sources as saying the corporate headquarters might move to a larger city.
"…Meeker's latest comments come after another attempt to allow casino gambling at Kentucky racetracks failed in the General Assembly.
"Meeker said he's frustrated with legislators.
"…Meeker said casino gambling is needed to keep Kentucky tracks competitive with tracks whose purses are supplemented by casino revenues…"
