China foils online gambling ring

CHINA -- China broke up a major online betting gang in advance of the World Cup, the BBC is reporting.

Gambling is illegal in China, outside of state run lotteries, and the Chinese government had vowed to catch online football gamblers, the BBC said.

The gambling ring ran across southern and eastern China, taking bets online, while the leader was arrested in Hong Kong after a party, The BBC said.
