Casino Companies Compete for Lincoln Park
RHODE ISLAND – As reported by the Boston Herald: "A small Rhode Island dog track could morph into a Las Vegas-style casino under plans laid out by a pair of high-powered gambling empires competing to buy the racing venue.
"Casino titan MGM Mirage, an early bidder for Lincoln Park, has floated plans for a $300 million upgrade to the track.
"Meanwhile, BLB Investors LLC, led by the gambling magnates who helped launch the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut, is touting plans for a $100 million-plus expansion.
" Some observers say the planned upgrades - which include thousands of additional slot machines, flashy restaurants and even talk of a hotel - could turn Lincoln Park into a casino in all but name. And this gambling powerhouse would take shape less than an hour's drive from Boston, noted Carey Theil, of Grey2K USA, a local group fighting to ban dog racing that has been skeptical of casino gambling…"
