Casino City’s Friday Five: WSOP Main Event and sports betting edition

8 Jul 2022

By Dan Ippolito
The most coveted bracelet in the poker world is officially up for grabs as the World Series of Poker Main Event is underway in Las Vegas. Thousands of players are currently chasing the seven-figure payday. Also this week, we have a contest at Everygame Casino Red, the potential of some new casinos coming to Las Vegas, the return of the Circa Sports NFL handicapping contests and some impressive Arizona sports betting figures.

Let’s begin with some online casino play:

5. Beach Party Bonus Contest at Everygame Casino
This summer, Everygame Casino Red players will be competing with each other for $270,000 in prizes during the Beach Party casino bonus contest.

The Beach Party contest will award $30,000 in prizes every week until 5 September. Everygame Casino players automatically earn points when they play any slots or table games. The 300 players with the most points win weekly bonuses up to $500 each. The top 20 each week are entered in a final draw for a $1,000 cash prize.

4. Over a half a billion wagered in Arizona in April
April was another strong month of event wagering for Arizona with over half a billion dollars in total money wagered, according to a new report by the Arizona Department of Gaming.

Sports wagering operators accepted over $512 million dollars in wagers during the month, resulting in approximately $1.6 million dollars in privilege fees contributed to the state.

Arizona is gearing up for Super Bowl LVII in February 2023 when it will become the first state with legal sports betting to host the event.

3. Circa Sports pro football contests return for 2022
As the countdown to Circa Sports’ pro football contests Circa Million IV and Circa Survivor continues, the Las Vegas-based sports betting brand is upping the ante for its 2022-2023 season with a guaranteed prize pool of $12 million.

Entrants also can partake in “Contest Weekends” throughout August, offering bettors the chance to win payouts and to party it up on Fremont Street Experience during a series of events.

Participants who enter the contests with a full house of entries will be treated to one full weekend of events of their choosing and a complimentary three-night stay at The D Las Vegas, with the option to upgrade to Circa Resort & Casino for an additional charge. A full house of entries consists of three $1,000 entries in Circa Million IV and six $1,000 entries in Circa Survivor.

2. This Week in Gambling: Six new casinos coming to Las Vegas
The new Sin City casinos on the table include two from Station Casinos, one with an NBA arena, another themed after video games, and one that's been sitting empty on The Strip for years.

It’s been a mystery on The Strip for 15 years, but we finally have an opening date set for the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The doors of the 67-story luxury resort and casino are now set to open in late 2023. There will be over 3,700 guest rooms, along with upscale restaurants, a pool, and night clubs.

Also, an Atari Casino and Hotel will be coming to Las Vegas. Plus, the owner of the Golden Nugget Casino bought a six-acre parcel on Las Vegas Boulevard, speculation of a new Strip casino has begun. Tilman Fertitta forked out about $200 million for the property, where there is currently a retail location and a restaurant.

1. World Series of Poker 2022 Main Event officially kicks off
The 53rd annual World Series of Poker Main Event kicked off Sunday morning for the first time on the iconic Las Vegas Strip at Bally's - Las Vegas, the future Horseshoe, and Paris Las Vegas, with a Shuffle Up & Deal moment by the 2021 WSOP champion, Koray Aldemir.

This year’s tournament marks poker’s biggest return in history, with more than 125,000 entries in bracelet events and more than $200 million in prize pool awards so far.

Poker players from around the world have made their way to Bally’s and Paris for their chance to win the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event bracelet.

The final day of play is scheduled for 16 July when a winner will be crowned.

“The WSOP Main Event is back and better than ever on the Las Vegas Strip,” said World Series of Poker Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Ty Stewart. “We are thrilled to see record-breaking turnout so far and expect that to continue for Poker’s definitive World Championship.
