Casino City’s Friday Five: Sportsbook drama in Canada and a super app edition

6 Mar 2026

By Dan Ippolito
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario hit PointsBet Canada with a five-day suspension, but PointsBet isn’t going down without a fight. In addition, we have DraftKings launching a super app, a massive jackpot win in California, a Nevada sportsbook opening, and Graton Resort & Casino announcing a major expansion.

Let’s begin with a slot win:

5. Sycuan Casino Resort sees new record jackpot win for 2026
A lucky player at Sycuan Casino Resort hit a jackpot and took home $597,903 on 18 February. The winning moment happened on a Huff N’ Even More Puff Grand slot machine.

The Sycuan player won the jackpot after placing a $10 bet, setting a new jackpot record for the year.

4. Caesars Sportsbook opens at The Resort in Summerlin
Earlier this week, Caesars Entertainment celebrated the grand opening of Caesars Race & Sportsbook at The Resort at Summerlin, marking the first retail Caesars Sportsbook location in the city about 10 miles west of Las Vegas.

The opening included a ribbon cutting ceremony with Caesars Entertainment and The Resort at Summerlin executives, along with former Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Deryk Engelland, who placed a ceremonial first bet.

The nearly 6,000-square-foot sportsbook currently features a new video wall and will add a 360-degree LED video display at the expanded sportsbook bar, scheduled for completion ahead of summer 2026. Twenty Caesars Sportsbook self-service betting kiosks are located inside the sportsbook and throughout the casino.

3. Graton Resort and Casino announces major expansion
Graton Resort & Casino in northern California will debut the next phase of its $1 billion expansion on 4 May.

New offerings include a collection of original food and beverage concepts led by award-winning chef Roy Ellamar and VP of Culinary Operations Jennifer Murphy-Ellamar, highlighted by the resort’s first rooftop restaurant, a sports bar, and a doughnut and dessert shop.

There will also be a 144,000-square-foot, fully non-smoking gaming floor. The spacious wing will house a poker room, a high-limit slots lounge, and nearly 2,000 new slot machines – including yet-to-be-released games making their debut.

2. DraftKings to launch Super App
On Tuesday, DraftKings announced plans to launch a new Super App called DraftKings Sports & Casino, bringing together sportsbook, prediction markets, casino and lottery into one integrated experience through a single account and wallet, with access tailored to each jurisdiction.

Phase one of the integration is expected in the next week or so, just in time for March Madness, with additional upgrades planned throughout the year.

1. PointsBet Canada to protest proposed five-day suspension by AGCO
In mid-February, Ontario's gaming regulator announced plans to suspend the operator's iGaming registration for five days, citing failures to identify and report suspicious bets connected to the NBA's Jontay Porter scandal.

Recently, PointsBet Canada confirmed it is taking its fight to the License Appeal Tribunal after Ontario's gaming regulator proposed a five-day suspension over what the company calls an isolated human error, not a systemic failure.

"We have a strong compliance record in Ontario and remain fully committed to the highest standards of integrity and player protection," said Scott Vanderwel, PointsBet Canada Chief Executive Officer. "We look forward to presenting our case at the Tribunal."
