Casino City’s Friday Five: Renovations, iGaming and big wins edition

30 Jun 2023

By Dan Ippolito
Out of nearly 2,000 slot machines, a guest at a California casino decided to sit at just the right one. If only everyone had such luck. Before we get into the details on a six-figure jackpot, we also have news about DraftKings pulling its offer to acquire the U.S. assets of PointsBet, Circa Sports’ weekend of fun in August, Rhode Island joined the iGaming world and Green Valley Ranch renovations in Nevada.

Let’s begin with a healthy payday:

5. Valley View Casino awards a six-figure jackpot
Valley View Casino & Hotel in California announced its most recent jackpot winner, who struck it big with a jackpot win of $115,123.

The guest’s dreams came true just after the official start of summer on Thursday, 22 June, when Helen hit the big score while playing the Triple Double Stars slot machine.

Helen has been a loyal Valley View Casino guest since the casino opened in 2001.

4. Circa Sports hosting an Ultimate Content Weekend
Taking place 24-26 August, entrants of the Circa Million V and Circa Survivor contests can live it up at downtown Las Vegas hotspots Circa Resort & Casino and The D Las Vegas with a series of exclusive events, room offerings, open bars and more.

The weekend’s itinerary will consist of the following events:

- Thursday, 24 August: Kick off Ultimate Contest Weekend with a pop-up radio row in Circa’s Galaxy Ballroom from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., where broadcast outlets will report live predictions for the upcoming pro football games. Additionally, a welcome reception with an open bar will take place at The D’s BarCanada from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., including meet & greet with Circa Sports CEO Derek Stevens; Mike Palm, vice president of operations for Circa, The D and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino; and various Circa Million and Circa Survivor winners from years’ past.

- Friday, 25 August: Spend the day at Stadium Swim, Circa’s year-round pool amphitheater. Guests can get their drink on with an open bar from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and mingle with media personalities while they are not broadcasting from the pop-up radio row in the Galaxy Ballroom.

- Saturday, 26 August: Attend the fourth annual “Circa Football Preview,” hosted by Mike Palm located in Circa’s Galaxy Ballroom on the third floor from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This panel will feature sports betting experts and personalities to provide insight into the upcoming 2023-2024 pro football season, the contests and more. The event is free and open to the public. More details on panelist members will be released in the coming weeks.

3. DraftKings no longer pursuing PointsBet
On Wednesday, DraftKings announced that the company is no longer pursuing the acquisition of the U.S. business of PointsBet Holdings.

This comes less than two weeks after the sports betting company made a $195 million offer for the U.S. assets of the sportsbook, which was significantly larger than Fanatics’ previous offer.

Earlier this week, Fanatics stepped it up by increasing its offer from $150 million to $225 million.

2. Rhode Island passes law to allow iGaming
Last week, legislation introduced by Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio and Rep. Gregory J. Costantino to provide a new means of accessing existing table game offerings at Bally's Twin River Lincoln was signed into law.

Addressing concerns raised during the committee hearing process regarding Bally’s initial proposal, the amended legislation requires a live dealer be in place.

The law (2023-S 0948B, 2023-H 6348A) enables Rhode Islanders over the age of 21 to access existing table games remotely, via a computer or a mobile app. Players will have to be located within the state of Rhode Island.

1. Green Valley Ranch in undergo property-wide transformation
Beginning with the unveiling of a new casino bar Polaris on 23 June, the premier Henderson resort destination is set to add two new dining offerings by renowned chefs, Eric and Bruce Bromberg.

Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino will also introduce high-limit slots and table games rooms, over the next year. The property recently showcased a newly refreshed pool and cabanas experience at the Backyard.

The high-limit table games room will have 10 games including single zero roulette, double deck blackjack, six deck S17 shoe and midi baccarat for high stakes wagering with high touch service and dedicated casino cage.

Already open, Polaris Bar is a circular hub featuring bar top gaming with 20 machines, plenty of screens for sports watching and a craft cocktail menu.
