Casino City’s Friday Five: NFL best bets and sportsbooks edition

6 Sep 2024

By Dan Ippolito
The NFL season is officially underway after last night’s battle between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs. As we look ahead to the rest of the season, we discuss some future bets to consider. In addition to hopefully cashing those tickets, we have a new sportsbook in Atlantic City, a six-figure slot jackpot from a Florida casino, WPT Global’s Fall Festival starting this weekend, and Circa Sports Survivor football contest reaching new heights.

Let’s begin with a lucky slots player:

5. Player wins $128,000 slot jackpot at Seminole Classic Casino
A player at Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood, Florida wagered $90 and won a total of $128,674 while playing a Liberty 7's slot on Monday.

The progressive jackpot was reset to $40,000.

4. WPT Global’s Fall Festival starts Sunday
Beginning Sunday, WPT Global will kick off three weeks of action, with over $8.5 million in prize money available.

The schedule will feature over 40 mystery bounty events. In addition, the Fall Festival Championship will have a $220 buy-in with $500,000 in prize money up for grabs, with a host of Day 1 flights running around the clock for players to bag for Day 2.

For the high stakes seekers, there will be a $3,500 WPT Championship event with a $1 million guarantee.

3. Circa Survivor officially passes $11 million in prize money
On Monday morning, Circa Sports’ professional football contest, Circa Survivor, received 10,000 entries, hitting the guarantee and ensuring that Circa Survivor would have more than $10 million in prize payouts. Since then, the entries have reached over 11,000, bringing the payouts to over $11 million.

Last year’s record-setting Circa Survivor contest guaranteed $8 million. However, with 9,267 entries, the prize pool ended up being a then-record $9.267 million.

All contest entrants for both Circa Survivor and Circa Million VI have until 2 p.m. on Saturday, 7 September to sign up in-person at a Circa Sports location in Nevada.

Circa Survivor will consist of up to 20 legs throughout the year, one for every week of the football season plus two special holiday weeks. Each week, participants will choose a team to win straight up, but the player cannot pick the same team twice for the duration of the season. Thanksgiving + Black Friday and the Christmas leg (Wednesday/Thursday games) will each be considered their own contest weeks.

Entries are $1,000 each, with a maximum of 10 entries per participant. An entrant can purchase additional entries if they lose their original entries on the opening Thursday night or Friday night games. All entrants will receive a Circa Survivor 2024 hat.

Entries are eliminated from the contest by selecting a team that subsequently loses or ties its game that week.

2. Top 10 NFL prop bets for 2024
In addition to participating in Circa’s contests, take a look at a few of our prop picks for the NFL season.

Harrison Jr. to win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+650)
If you didn’t need a QB, Marvin Harrison Jr. would’ve been your team’s draft pick but the top three needed a young arm and the son of the Hall of Famer fell to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 4.

With Kyler Murray as QB, the Cardinals are going to look to get the ball into Harrison’s hands to make plays.

As for the players who were taken ahead of him, Drake May isn’t the starting QB for New England…yet, and the Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams are on struggling teams but the Bears should have a better season than Daniels’ Commanders.

The Cardinals aren’t going to be a top team either, but when teams struggle, a lot of the blame tends to shift toward the QB rather than a wide receiver. Plus, Harrison can easily take off for over 1,000 receiving yards and push near 100 catches.

Houston to make the playoffs (-190)
Another team set to full speed ahead, the Houston Texans now have their franchise QB and are adding pieces around him.

It was a surprise to no one when C.J. Stroud won Offensive Rookie of the Year last season with over 4,000 yards passing, 23 touchdowns and just five picks.

The Texans also had one of the biggest off-season moves when Stefon Diggs was traded from Buffalo to Houston. Adding Diggs to the receiving group of Tank Dell and Nico Collins, this has the argument to be one of the best pass-catching options in football. Don’t forget Dalton Schultz out of the tight end position either.

The Texans’ division, the AFC South, isn’t particularly strong but not terrible either, so Houston will need to keep improving to take over the division which they are more than capable of doing.

San Francisco to win the Super Bowl (+550)
It has been the complete opposite of drama-free for the San Francisco 49ers since their Super Bowl loss last February. Brandon Aiyuk was unhappy and hadn’t practiced with the team as of last Thursday. However, that afternoon he signed a four year/$120 million extension.

On top of that, the 49ers still have several other weapons to move the ball on offense with Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel. Both of these players can catch a pass and make several players miss, or take a handoff from the backfield and find their way for a first down.

The defense is still going to give opposing offenses issues like it did last year. Giving up less than 18 points per contest, the 49ers did a great job stuffing the run with teams not able to average 90 rush yards per game against them.

Many have doubts about QB Brock Purdy and that he is just surrounded by incredible playmakers, and while that could be true, it doesn’t matter as long as you are putting up wins.

1. Fanatics Sportsbook opens at Ocean Casino Resort
Just in time for the NFL season opener, Fanatics Sportsbook unveiled its new retail sportsbook location in partnership with Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City on Thursday.

The book is a 100-foot elevated bar and lounge area with seating for 60 surrounded by slot machines, tables and 140 feet of LED walls for sports viewing.

Fans can also place wagers at betting windows or self-service betting terminals throughout the venue and traverse a 17-foot open-air staircase that leads to Balcony Bar, a mezzanine bar and lounge.
