Casino City’s Friday Five: Jackpots, bans and an online gambling loophole edition

20 Jun 2025

By Dan Ippolito
A group of attorney generals have joined forces to close online gambling loophole. Before we dive into those details, there are a few other top stories from the week. We had a $1.1 million jackpot on the Las Vegas Strip, fireworks all across Las Vegas, another massive win from Atlantic City, and a potential new ban in Sweden.

Let’s begin with some fun from AC:

5. Friday the 13th brings good luck as guest hits $245,808 slot jackpot
Playing slots on Friday The 13th resulted in a $245,080 jackpot for one lucky guest from Pennsylvania at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino - Atlantic City.

The big win came on a Ninja Moon Dollar Storm slot machine with a $5 denomination. The guest wagered $200 and watched the machine return a bonus jackpot that paid $245,080.

4. $1.1 million slot win at The Venetian Las Vegas
A guest at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, who wished to remain anonymous, was playing $1 Million Dragon Link in the high limit gaming lounge on The Palazzo casino floor at The Venetian Las Vegas.

The player won the Grand Jackpot for $1,142,215 from a $250 bet.

3. Attorneys General joins forces to close online gambling loophole
A bipartisan group of 36 attorneys general, co-led by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, is challenging a federal court ruling that risks creating a loophole for unregulated gambling.

“States rightfully have the ability to protect their citizens from the negative consequences of online gambling, no matter how it’s packaged,” Yost said. “We’re protecting the unprotected.”

Yost and his counterparts urge the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit to side with New Jersey in a lawsuit brought by Kalshi, an online platform that lets users bet on real-world events, including sports.

Kalshi claims that its use of so-called events contracts for gambling means states have no power to regulate the platform.

According to Kalshi, Congress included a provision in the Commodity Exchange Act that preempts state regulation of betting when it is offered through such contracts.

The attorneys general argue that nothing in federal law suggests that Congress aimed to strip states of their power to regulate sports betting.

2. Swedish government proposes ban on gambling with credit
By preventing gambling from being financed with credit, the Swedish government wants to reduce the risk of over-indebtedness and protect consumers from ending up in financial difficulties.

The government's proposal means that licensees and gaming agents will not be allowed to allow or participate in the financing of gambling with credit.

The new rules are proposed to come into force on 1 April 2026.

1. Fireworks to take over Las Vegas on the Fourth of July
Las Vegas is heating up this Fourth of July weekend with parties, live entertainment and festive experiences across the city. From rooftop firework displays and poolside DJ sets to exclusive dining specials and performances, the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World is the place to celebrate Independence Day.
