By Dan Ippolito
In last week’s Friday Five, we covered several stories, including that Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City announced a $14 million investment into the property. As this week progressed, we saw more stories in regards to construction and openings for several properties. We also have Intertops Poker sending players to multiple tournaments and more sports betting news from Indiana and Colorado.

Let’s begin with Intertops:

5. Intertops Poker to send players to Malta, Aruba and St Maarten
Intertops Poker is running three series of satellites to send players to high-stakes live tournaments.

Satellites for the €500K Malta Poker Festival started on 9 September. CPT St Maarten satellite tournaments begin 16 September, and players can win their way to the World Series of Poker Aruba in qualifying tournaments beginning 23 September.

The winners of the satellites will be awarded with the buy-in for the Main Events in the respective location as well as luxury accommodations and help with travel expenses.

4. Caesars Palace officially relaunches The Colosseum
On 6 and 7 September, The Colosseum at Caesars Palace unveiled technical and design upgrades with two sold-out shows.

Grammy Award winner Keith Urban was performing as the Las Vegas Strip venue debuted its new sound system, moving light fixtures and LED video-wall.

The Colosseum saw a new general admission floor space be added and also VIP banquette seating with cocktail service. The lobby bar has also been increased.

3. Las Vegas Convention Center construction reaches milestone
On 20 August, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority announced the final beam was placed above the 600,000-square-foot exhibit hall as part of the 1.4 million-square-foot expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The 800 workers on the construction site signed the 90,000-pound beam that was considered the final beam.

After the 1.4 million-square-foot expansion, the existing 3.2 million square feet of the Convention Center will be renovated. The total budget for the expansion and renovation is $1.475 billion.

The expansion is scheduled for completion in December 2020, and the facility will welcome its first full-facility event in January 2021 during CES.

2. Churchill Downs to offer sports betting in Indiana and Colorado
On Tuesday, Churchill Downs announced an agreement with Full House Resorts to operate a retail sportsbook at Rising Star Casino Resort in Indiana. Along with the BetAmerica Sportsbook at the resort, the company will deploy its BetAmerica online platform.

"We believe our innovative, state-of-the-art products and deep experience as the leader in online horse racing wagering enable us to introduce a premier sports betting platform in Indiana,” said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI. "We look forward to the opportunity to provide our BetAmerica Sportsbook to the residents of Colorado in the future as well."
