Campbell wins second bracelet of the summer

Robert Campbell is the winner of the $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo Eight or Better. He takes home his second bracelet of the summer and $385,763 after topping the field of 151 players. With this victory, Campbell takes the lead over Dan Zack in the Player of the Year race.

Campbell has made four final tables this summer and went on two win his first two WSOP bracelets. Before this summer, his previous best finish was second in the 2015 $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. Earlier this summer, he won the $1,500 2-7 Triple Draw.

It seems he may have changed his approach heading into this year’s WSOP.

“This summer, I had probably played less poker than I have ever played and I felt really, really excited to play. I was more excited, like really excited to come to Vegas. Much more than I have in the past,” Campbell said.

Campbell plays all of the $10,000 events and many of the mixed games. He ran to register for the $10,000 Limit Hold’em as soon as he wrapped up his second bracelet. He says he was happy to win a bracelet in a game he really likes.

Campbell’s heads up match didn’t last too long at all. He said he ran so good, he might have actually felt bad.

“More than pure. Like whatever that next phase is after pure. It was like really sick, I was like holy f*****g shit man. He just got barbecued that poor man. It’s just outrageous. Even when I thought I lost I won. That’s how sick I ran.”

“It’s like you bet on roulette and you bet on number 16 and it comes up number 17 and you’re walking away from the table and an earthquake comes and pushes it to 16 and you’ve won a thousand dollars.”

With the win he claimed the top spot in the POY race and he really only had one comment.

“As long as they put my picture directly over Jeff Lissandro’s.”

Campbell defeated Yueqi Zhu, who now has back-to-back runner-up finishes.

The final table started with Steven Wolansky falling in eighth place for $36,460. The two-time bracelet winner was part of a final table filled with former bracelet winners. This was Wolansky’s fifth final table and 59th cash. He has just over $1.5-million in lifetime winnings.

Qinghai Pan was in the lead with seven left.

Andrey Zhigalov fell in seventh place, taking home $46,999. He was eliminated by Yueqi Zhu who was making back-to-back final tables. This was Zhigalov's sixth final table on 24 WSOP cashes.

Pan found his way to the rail shortly after in sixth place. He took home $62,079 after being eliminated by four-time bracelet winner Mike Matusow. This was Pan's first WSOP final table. He has just eight cashes in his WSOP career.

During this time Campbell was climbing the leaderboard.

Two-time bracelet winner Ryan Hughes was eliminated in a three-way pot with Matusow and yet another multi-bracelet winner, Mike Wattel. Hughes won $83,971 at his 13th WSOP final table. He now has 58 career cashes and just under $1.5-million in lifetime winnings.

Campbell was in the lead with four remaining, with Zhu close behind. Matusow fell in fourth, taking home $116,255.

Wattel followed him the door quickly after. Losing a pot to Campbell and leaving Campbell in the lead facing Zhu heads up for his second bracelet of the summer.

Cambell ran over Zhu in the heads up match.

Campbell secured the victory shortly in a little less than an hour to claim his second bracelet and the lead in the POY race.
