Caesars Atlantic City participates in 6th annual Earth Hour
26 Mar 2012
“This symbolic act represents Caesars Entertainment’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint on a global scale,” said Jennifer Weissman, Regional Vice President of Marketing for Caesars Entertainment. “Over the last six years our Atlantic City properties have made huge strides in energy conservation, as well as bringing awareness to our employees and guests on how they can have a positive impact on the environment.”
More than 40 Caesars Entertainment properties participated in Earth hour 2011, including all our Atlantic City properties. This year, Caesars Entertainment Chairman, President and CEO Gary Loveman has asked to extend our leadership by having all of the company’s properties participate. Caesars resorts in four countries – the United States, Canada, Uruguay and China – will participate, shutting off their properties’ respective lights for one hour. Nearly one billion people in 128 countries and territories will help reduce climate change around the world by turning off non-essential lights for one hour.
In the last six years Caesars Entertainment has spent more than $62 million on energy-saving projects that range from cogeneration to solar power to initiatives to turn off computers and lights when not in use. Caesars Entertainment has saved enough energy every year to power 122,000 round-trip flights from New York to Los Angeles. Caesars Entertainment is the first company in the gaming and hospitality to join the EPA Climate Leaders partnership.
Earth Hour is the largest event of its kind in the world. In 2011, a record 135 countries took part in the observance as well as international landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State Building, Eiffel Tower and Great Pyramids, and the city skylines of Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Tel Aviv. Earth Hour 2011 was also the first Earth Hour to go beyond the hour, by asking supporters to think about what else they can do to make a difference. Beyondthehour.org was launched to give supporters a place to share stories and pledge to do more.
