ILLINOIS -- As reported by the Midweek News: "'What else are you going to do with a little town like Shabbona?' asked Leon Ardelean, a member of the Shabbona Business Association. He and a few others had gathered 'round a table at Vicki's Corner Treasures, a small gift shop downtown.

"The board, at its regular meeting, was discussing the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribe and why it was so important to their businesses that the proposed Indian bingo operation become a reality.

"...Monday night Feb. 11, two of their members would be speaking at a DeKalb County-sponsored public meeting about the Indians' pending agreement with the county.

"...[Rita Reynolds, who co-owns a pizza business downtown,] said the casino 'will also bring management jobs into the community,' and she added that unions in town had already worked out an agreement with the Potawatomi. Another member reminded everyone that the Indians didn't asked for a tax rebate incentive, as have many other businesses before moving to DeKalb County. Another member said the casino in Aurora is bringing in $28 million in sales tax a year..."
