British Columbia Lottery Corporation: Give responsibly, do not buy lottery tickets for minors

18 Dec 2007

RICHMOND, BC -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is advising British Columbians not to buy lottery products as gifts for minors this holiday season.

"While lottery games such as Scratch & Win tickets make great gifts for adults, they are not appropriate for children," said Jim Lightbody, BCLC's Vice President, Lottery Gaming. "While this is the season for giving and family, there are some presents that are more appropriate for adults."

Through a new holiday advertising campaign BCLC is reminding lottery players:

'Tis the season to give responsibly.

Please don't give Scratch and Win tickets to anyone under 19.

The ads began running in several major newspapers across the province on Dec 12th.

In addition to the holiday advertisements, responsible play messages are printed on all lottery tickets, advertisements, and signage, customer display monitors and displays at retail.

BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation reporting to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through a Board of Directors. Its mission is to offer responsible gaming entertainment, generating income for the public good.
