BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- As reported by WBRC: "Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford is openly opposing a plan created by Governor Bob Riley to crack down on gambling operations stating that the city could use the revenue that comes from some Bingo Parlors.
"Governor Riley created a task force to investigate gambling operations throughout the state.
"The governor contends that many electronic bingo machines are actually illegal slot machines. Riley also says he will oppose any efforts in the upcoming Legislative session to expand and tax gambling.
"The two have opposite opinions regarding gambling in the state of Alabama. Langford insists that Bingo is legal whether played on a machine or not, but Governor Riley disagrees..."
