Bicycle wraps up WPT tournament
The Legends main event began on Saturday, August 25th with enough players to justify two flights of Day 1 play, and when the players were counted, the final number was 485 to set a new record for entrants. In the sixth consecutive year of the tournament, there was also a record-setting prize pool of $4,607,500.
The tournament was packed with some of the biggest names in poker who came to the Bike for its "legendary" annual event, names like Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Scotty Nguyen, Jamie Gold, and Jerry Yang. In the end, the final table demonstrated what the World Poker Tour and the Bicycle Casino bring to poker - the opportunity for anyone with poker abilities to win hundreds of thousands of dollars and play with the pros. The final six players consisted of WSOP Player of the Year Tom Schneider, seasoned pros "Action" Dan Harrington and David "Dragon" Pham, Mike McClain, Thu Nguyen, and recent college graduate Jack Liu.
In the end, it was a battle of the pros when the heads-up match between Harrington and Pham lasted for nearly three hours. Finally, Dan Harrington emerged as the victor to claim the $1,600,365 first prize, a seat into the WPT $25,000 World Championship, a seat into the 2008 Legends of Poker $10,000 main event, and the priceless World Poker Tour title and undisputed ranking as a Legend of Poker. David Pham took second place with $800,185 and enough points to catapult him to the top of the Card Player Player of the Year standings.
The 2007 Legends of Poker was filmed by the World Poker Tour with an exuberant audience cheering on their favorite poker players and will be aired on GSN in early 2008.
