Betbull Condemn Arrests
LONDON, England – (PRESS RELEASE) -- bwin International Entertainment AG announced on Friday 15 September 2006 that Manfred Bodner and Norbert Teufelberger, Co-Chief Executive Officers of bwin International Entertainment AG, had been detained for questioning by French authorities because of the alleged violation of French gaming laws.
Whilst the betbull group accepts no business from France it is consensus among the Directors of betbull plc and their advisors that the actions of the French authorities are violating applicable and relevant EU-law and jurisdiction and that the action taken is completely incommensurable.
Gunter Schmid, CEO of Betbull Plc: "The arrest of Manfred Bodner and Norbert Teufelberger is an attempt to intimidate an entire industry. To the national courts, the European Courts, and the European Commission it will send the signal that it is not the general public that requires protection from abstract and unfounded threats of privately operated gaming but it is the operators that require protection from the real violation of their basic human rights from overpowering executive bodies across Europe. There is much more at stake than the survival of an industry, this is a test to see if checks and balances in European democracies and within the EU are still functional. We offer Manfred Bodner, Norbert Teufelberger, and their families our sympathy and support."
